Speed jerked awake sitting up, panting. He saw it, felt it. Another Angel would be born today.

“Speed, you’re okay?” Horatio had woken up, feeling his mate’s distress.

Speed looked at him, ”Another Angel will be born.” He simply said, but it wasn’t. For an Angel to be born that person had to die.

Horatio and Bernstein walked into Zany Town, the detective telling him what he knew so far. Horatio looked around seeing the parents with their children. “This place is a buffet for these creeps. Where is she?”

“In the back,” Bernstein answered, walking to the back. Horatio followed him.

He stood in the doorway and looked at the little girl with a sad smile. He let his eyes wander through the room taking note of everything and than his gaze returned to the little girl. “You will become an Angel,” he said, turning around and leaving. He walked back to the detective.

“Fifty witnesses,” Bernstein commented looking at the people.

“Hmmm, fifty suspects,” Horatio corrected.

His team walked into the facility, he locked eyes with Speed, seeing the sadness in those beautiful brown eyes. He sighed before he spoke. “Welcome to the next forty-eight hours of your life, ladies and gentlemen.” He gave out the assignments to his team and then looked at Speed again, “You ready?” he asked.

Speed took a deep breath and nodded, “Right behind you.”

“Let’s go,” Horatio said walking towards the restroom. Speed followed him with a heavy heart.

Speed entered and just stood there in shock, “How old is she?” He asked Horatio.

“She's only five years old,” Horatio answered.

“Too young to be an Angel,” Speed said.

“We have no saying about who becomes one, you know that.” Horatio commented, but agreed with Speed. She was much too young to be an Angel.

They processed the scene in silence, both in deep thoughts.

Speed looked at the little girl again, seeing that she was half dressed, “That creep didn’t want her dead,” The anger evident in his voice.

“He was going to take her with him,” Horatio said.

“What do you think stopped him?” Speed asked.

“My guess is the alarm system,” Horatio replied.

“We could have a fish in the net,” Speed said.

“Not a fish. A shark,” Horatio retorted. “I want you and Eric to check everyone out. I’ll be here with Alexx.”

Speed nodded, knowing Ruthie was safe with them.

After a long day of stress and heartbreak, Speed was in the lab processing the evidence. Alexx had helped Ruthie to the other side and she would become an Angel in a few days. It would be their duty to protect her until she was grown up.

“Speed?” Horatio walked in, “How are you holding up?”

“I’m okay,” He answered. “The mother knows?” he looked at his lover.

“Yes. She actually asked me,” he smiled.

“How did it go?” Speed asked.

Horatio knew what he meant. “ It went fine, she is on the other side.” He reassured Speed. “ You read the autopsy report?”

Speed nodded, “Yeah, that bastard wanted his time with her.” He couldn't hide the anger and hatred in his voice.

“We’ll get him,” Horatio said with determination.

“Yeah I know we will,” Speed said.

They got him. After 48 hours they arrested the bastard. Speed stood behind the two way mirror, seeing his lover talking to the creep. Horatio didn’t want him in there, which was a good thing. He would have killed him. A shudder went through his body, remembering all the bodies they had found, so many lost souls. No one to help them to get to the other side to become Angels.

He felt a hand rubbing soothing circles over his back, “Tim, honey?” Alexx looked at him. “You’re okay?”

"Alexx, I’m fine,” He smiled at her. “ I was just thinking about how many children were lost because of him."

“We’ve got him, he will be in jail for the rest of his life.” Alexx took his face between her hands, “and remember in a few days she will be an Angel.”

Speed nodded, taking her in a hug, “Yeah I know, and we will protect her from any harm.”

Horatio walked in, hearing Speed last command, “ We will,” He simply said. “You’re ready to go home?” He asked Speed.

“Yeah.” He let Horatio take him in his arms and kiss him deeply, trying to forget the last 48 hours. “Why don’t we continue this at home,” He smiled. “ Alexx see you tomorrow,” He kissed the ME on the cheek.

Horatio took Alexx in a tight hug, “See you tomorrow.”

“Take care of him,” She smiled at Horatio.

“I will.” Horatio said.
